Our last two trips to Santorini were separated by a decade, and in that time, the number of visitors to the island skyrocketed. But Santorini has not changed much. During our last trip to the island, we stayed at Katikies Santorini, Grace Hotel, Cavo Tagoo Santorini, and Santo Pure Oia Suites & Villas.
All of these hotels reflect different sides of the evolving demand for the best luxury, and all have been shaping the stylistic trends on the island. But perhaps more than any other hotel, Vora Villas Santorini rises above the cookie-cutter templates of white-and-blue cube houses, so typical to Santorini.

Vora Villas’ interior design is infused with Nordic sensibility, even if the ceilings organically curve, Cyclades style. The smooth shapes contrast with sharp-edged private terraces, and the pathway zigzagging down from one angled wall to another, linking the rooms to the reception.
The interiors are relatively dark, with soft materials creating a feeling of comfort, privacy, and relaxation. By contrast, the terraces feel wide open, with astonishing views of the sea and over the whole island as the main attraction.

All guest villas are secluded and private, which feels like a feature on its own. It’s a rare thing in Santorini hotels, especially the ones situated on the caldera’s rim; typically, properties in these coveted places are stacked one on top of another, with public pathways often passing right in front of rooms.
But Vora stands alone, taking advantage of its isolated spot, and using smart design to make sure each room is well-positioned for the best views and the sense of solitude. This doesn’t mean the hotel is remote. The center of the cute village of Imerovigli is only a short walk away, and Fira, the capital of Santorini, is also reachable by foot.
We checked in to the Villa Ro, a duplex suite with two balconies, designed in a palette of muted tones and custom-made furniture alongside dark finishes, such as a black marble bathtub. It is built on two levels, with a top floor taken up by a terrace, perfect for outdoor dining and relaxation (infinity plunge pool included). Villa Ro felt very private and romantic.

Where to stay in Santorini
Vora Villas stands at one of the highest spots on the rim of the caldera. Not only does it offer incredible views of the center of the ancient volcano, now a bay flooded by the sea, but it also permits a look over what seems like the entire island. Book Villa Omikron for the best vistas, and its grand terrace. Located higher than other suites at Vora, Omikron offers truly spectacular views.
