This luxury playground for grown-ups reflects perfectly the hedonistic, high-end vibe of the beachfront Seminyak enclave—the epicenter of Bali’s resort scene.

W Bali – Seminyak wows with its youthful aesthetic, which may be less rooted in the Balinese style and culture than some other hotels, but nevertheless, it reflects the island’s natural beauty and rich heritage in the latest fashions of luxury.

It’s an approach familiar to the W resorts aficionados. As in all W developments, a certain level of playfulness permeates the design. Expect emphatic shapes, bold light solutions, and interesting combinations of textures that stimulate senses.

Tasked with introducing the visually powerful W brand style into the Balinese context were architecture studio SCDA Architects, Poole Associates, and AB Concept.

Designed for the Luxury Playground

The design brings in the coastal landscapes and a sense of place. The Balinese narrative is woven into the distinctive architecture, manifested in a relaxed attitude to the boundaries between indoors and outdoors.

From the W Lounge with vibrant tropical pinks and purples and oversized day beds facing the coastal breeze to the guest accommodation (divided into 158 ocean- or garden-facing “retreat” rooms and 79 freestanding villa retreats), the resort introduces a new dimension of contemporary design.

Fully equipped with modern amenities and cutting-edge technology, these high-energy interiors have an informal atmosphere that complements the vibrant design.

For all senses

But the atmosphere will change depending on the hour and facility. The all-night WooBar will certainly bring out your inner party animal, while the 24/7 AWAY Spa will tranquilize it again. The ‘Blue Room’, a high-oxygen-filled lounge, will set the mood.

Go to the ultra-cool W Lounge for cocktails, and later for the unforgettable dining experiences at one of W’s signature restaurants, Fire and Starfish Bloo, headed up by acclaimed Chef de Cuisine Jack Yoss.

What we love

• The indulgent Whatever/Whenever concierge service, catering to every whim 24/7 (from a snack to organizing a party or finding a helicopter ride…);
• The villas—great deal of space, high tech and marvelous views from most;
• If you have to leave the villa then a good reason would be for breakfasts at FIRE;
• Central Seminyak location, on Bali's most fashionable stretch of coastline—perfect for discovering the island's top nightlife spots, best art galleries, and shopping. Many restaurants, bars, and attractions of Seminyak are within walking distance from the resort;
• Best sunset spot: the beachside ICE Bar. Go for one of the frozen cocktails.

What you should know

• Pools layout mimic the rice fields and the resort design hinting at the local style, but you could argue W Seminyak isn’t particularly “Balinese”;
• The sea here is beautiful but often too choppy for swimming;
• From Denpasar Airport to W Seminyak it takes about 25 minutes by car.
• Facilities include AWAY spa, the library WIRED & WORDS, SWEAT fitness center and more.
