Family owned and run since 1933, Lion Sands is an exclusive, award-winning Private Game Reserve that carries with it a passion instilled by a great family history.
The Lion Sands safari philosophy is to offer “an informative and holistic” safari experience, ensuring that all spheres of the ecosystem, from the smallest insects to the mighty African elephant are viewed as a whole.
The place is actually a collection of three distinct lodges: River, Ivory and the brand new 1933 Lodge.
River Lodge is at the heart of Lion Sands. Built on the banks of the Sabie River, it is positioned on a site with trees dating back 800 years.
Its 20 luxury chalets are connected by raised wooden walkways and decorated in neutral tones, in a soft understated style. Each chalet comes with an en-suite bathroom, outdoor and indoor shower and wooden viewing deck. There are two swimming pools, a large viewing deck with spotting scopes and comfortable lounge and bar area.
The award-winning Ivory Lodge is ultra luxurious, with the emphasis on exclusivity and complete privacy, styled in a contemporary Afro-European chic.
Each spacious suite is operated as a private villa, with a separate living room and fireplace, oversized windows, a heated plunge pool as well as an open plan en-suite bathroom with an outdoor shower.
The main area offers a private bar with fireplace, a library lounge, a well-stocked wine cellar and extensive wooden viewing decks. Ivory Lodge is about elegance, simplicity and sophistication.
One of the rare private properties in the Kruger area, 1933 Lodge is a great option for a large group of travellers. Designed to be booked on an exclusive use basis, it comes with its own butler, chef, and private Land Rover.
The four spacious suites boast a fascinating architecture that incorporates plenty of large panorama windows and glass sliding doors. The main lodge building features a cosy lounge, with oversized chairs and a large stone fireplace, a kitchen and informal dining area. All public areas of 1933 lead out onto a large wraparound deck, complete with a 13.5m long swimming pool.
Finally, there is the unforgettable experience of a night in the Lion Sands Treehouses.
Built around ancient trees, with fabulous views over the plains, they offer the chance to experience the bush in total privacy, up close and personal with nature and the star-studded sky—surrounded by sounds of the African night.
