Eight decades of heritage

The hotel’s original historic design by Aris Kostantinides, one of Greece’s most revered architects from the 1960s, incorporates local stone and traditional Cycladic architecture that has stood the test of time, well enough to be considered for national preservation by the Greek Ministry of Civilisation.

The hotel’s modern designers did not stray far from the late Kostantinides’ master plan, opting to revamp the 1960s glam interiors while bringing the hotel up to the most modern design standards. Selected period furniture made of light beech wood pays tribute to the design era in which Theoxenia exploded onto the Greek hotel scene.

Blending into the landscape

Stone-clad walls, orange and turquoise hessian fabrics, and sweeping minimal surfaces all create a backdrop for deep blue bar stools, as well as accents of bright lime, orange, and red — all this set against the strong Cycladic themes of white and blue.

Mykonos Theoxenia harmoniously melds with Mykonos’s radiant seascape. The low-rise structure of this fifty-two-room property occupies a prime location—right next to the stark white windmills that are the island’s trademark, while offering stunning views of the Aegean Sea below.

The hotel experience

During the day, sun-worshippers can soak up golden rays on white Moroso beach chairs or luxuriate within curtained four-poster beds facing out to the Aegean.

Later, they can chill out among the cool stone details and crisp turquoise, citrus, and white decor by designer Angelos Angelopoulos. His novel use of energetic colors renders the design experience as exciting and joyful as a bowl of ripe fruit.

What we love

• Great 1960's glam style. Design blends exposed stone, wood, and wicker, set against pristine white, with striking color accents—resulting in a fresh, energized feel
• The on-site restaurant, The Plate, with lovely views thanks to the balcony dining. The kitchen produces inventive dishes in a fresh take on the traditional Greek fare. The menu lists chicken fillet with olive and cashew crust, octopus Carpaccio, sautéed shrimp with cherry tomato jam… Yummy!
• The staff at Mykonos Theoxenia understands the importance of discreet personal service
• A cool beach club vibe around the hotel's large swimming pool. The pool is surrounded by hammocks and daybeds, outfitted with white muslin canopies.
• You can hardly wish for a more prominent location (and the view). Mykonos Theoxenia neighbors the island's famous windmills, and is just across the bay from the cafes, art galleries, shops, and restaurants of the Mykonos town… and of course its “Little Venice” waterfront

What you should know

• Mykonos Theoxenia has a seaside location, but rather than directly by the beach, it is positioned on top of a cliff
• The hotel offers an airport shuttle service to Mykonos Island National Airport (it's just a five-minute drive)
• Similarly to many hotels in Mykonos, Mykonos Theoxenia seasonal, and is closed between October and late April
