Manna, Arcadia—Peloponnese

Manna is a design sanctuary tucked away in the cool, pine-scented heights of the Arcadian mountains and a perfect escape from the bustle of Athens.

Once a sanatorium, today, Manna is a boutique luxury hotel—a dream turned reality by a hotelier who first visited the site as a six-year-old boy.

Without sightseeing, the drive from Athens takes two and a half hours, but we arrived here after a day’s journey, having visited the Ancient Corinth and Mycenae sites on the way (it was well worth it!).

The further into the Peloponnese, the more winding the roads became; the steeper the slopes, the taller the pine trees. And then, in the setting dusk, the Manna appeared: calm, poised, utterly serene, and immersed in nature.

Manna Arcadia Hotel: the highlights

The hotel is a masterclass in modern luxury, orchestrated by K-Studio, with interiors that radiate warmth, sophistication, and quiet drama. The hotel’s stylish common areas (a bar wrapped around a central fireplace and a swanky lounge worthy of an alpine film set) offer elegant, inviting spaces to unwind.

The Manna Arcadia hotel spa—small but deeply relaxing—has an indoor whirlpool beautifully integrated into the space. It’s tailor-made for a perfect post-hike bathing ritual. There’s also a small gym (we loved its wooden WaterRover rowing machine!)

Breakfast was a daily delight. We loved the poached eggs on smashed avocado; the cake selection was also excellent. Service was top-notch throughout our stay. The staff is warm and professionally attentive, and their quiet presence added to the relaxed pace of the hotel.

Our accommodation was a true highlight. We were super lucky to check into Room 405, featuring a beautiful interior and a private balcony with unmatched views of the mountains covered in pine forests.

Manna Arcadia hotel, a quiet refuge

The surrounding area is tranquil and deeply atmospheric, and the hotel stands on a mid-point of an 80-kilometer scenic walking trail. Still, this doesn’t mean this is a place for the outdoorsy types. Manna is remote, but the Peloponnese road network is surprisingly good, making navigation straightforward. And while the mountainous terrain could pose difficulties for those with mobility issues, the hotel itself is well-adapted.

For everyone seeking refuge in nature, thoughtful design, and a deep sense of calm, Manna Arcadia is more than just a hotel. It’s a place with history and a deeply personal project that reveals itself through attention to detail and quality of service.

After a few days in Athens, at Manna, we found a refuge steeped by nature and defined by impeccable design and an atmosphere of quiet luxury. Manna Arcadia is a rare find in the heart of Greece. Highly recommended!

What we love

• The unique, secluded mountain setting within a mature pine forest. It's a real escape from Athens, only 2.5 hours by car.
• Stylish, heritage-inspired interiors by K-Studio that marry alpine elegance with modern Greek design
• Room 405 offers rare privacy, a beautiful interior—and the best balcony in the hotel! It is also the most "Instagrammable" accommodation. We loved it!
• Thoughtfully stocked minibar showcasing local artisanal products (and it's free unless you want to have it re-stocked)
• Delicious food and standout breakfasts (the poached eggs on avocado were a highlight)
• Cool bar with fireplace and a sophisticated lounge, perfect for slow evenings
• The hotel is dog-friendly, a welcome detail for travelers with pets who will undoubtedly enjoy rooms on the ground floor that open up directly to the pine forest.
• Spa with a beautiful whirlpool. The place is small but serene.
• Exceptional staff; not only excellent at their jobs but passionate about the hotel. Always a good sign.

What you should know

• Shared balconies may lack privacy. Room 405 is the exception, but be aware this is the only room of this type in the hotel. It offered peaceful seclusion, unlike other rooms where balconies are shared without privacy screens.
• The terrain around the hotel may be challenging for those with mobility issues.
• Some guests may find the restaurant pricing a little ambitious for the portion size—but the food is delicious.
• There is no air conditioning in the rooms, and while the altitude keeps things cooler than in Athens, rooms exposed to direct sunlight could still get warm on peak summer days.
• To get from Athens to the heart of Peloponnese, where Manna is located, we rented a car (with Avis), and that gave us freedom to sightsee and explore the area. The hotel can easily arrange transfers, too.
• There's a lot to explore in the peninsula, and if you're driving from Athens, we recommend stopping at Mycenae and Corinth, both rich in archaeological significance.
• The closest airport is Kalamata, less than 1.5. hours from the hotel. The Athens airport is some 3 hours away by car.
