Set on the banks of the ever-flowing Klaserie River, amongst dense riparian vegetation, the modern and uniquely designed Kapama Karula Lodge is one of South Africa’s most prestigious camps.

Chic and contemporary, Kapama Karula is a small, intimate safari lodge composed of a series of luxurious tents and exclusive suites.

Tents and chalets

The meru-style tents and five exclusive chalets nestle discreetly under a canopy of trees in the natural bush to ensure solitude and privacy.

Each has his-and-hers basins, inside and outside showers and sliding glass doors that wrap 260 degrees around the suite, offering guests the opportunity to have unrestricted views of the Klaserie River. The 115m² suites are simply stunning and come with every form of luxury.

The Central Lodge

The Central Lodge is a short walk through pathways. Here guests will find the swimming pool, the slick bar with a floor-to-ceiling glass door, as well as a chic dining room, built up in the treetops. It is furnished with vivid, colorful modern art and Phillipe Starck chairs.

With its whitewash wooden structure, skylights allowing wide shafts of natural light to pour in, and the contemporary, yet African feel of the main building will impress the connoisseurs. The outside Siligna deck overlooking the river adds to the Karula’ appeal.

This intimate South African safari lodge offers a private and secluded setting in the Big Five territory—it is one of the finest camps in the Klaserie area.

Magnificent views over the Klaserie River and fantastic birdlife around the camp makes it a unique place.

What you should know

• The camp is situated in a “low risk” malaria area, but remember to bring your malaria prophylaxis medication with you;
• Despite the lodge being open to children, it feels more suited to guests from young adults and older;
• The camp’s rule is that an adult must accompany all children under the age of 16 during game drives and bush walks;
• Mealtimes are generally informal so it is not necessary to dress up in formal clothing for dinner;
