Our journey to Bawah Reserve island was an adventure in itself. We were picked up from our hotel in Singapore (the Duxton Reserve), and driven to the ferry terminal, from which we sailed to Batam, to finally take a thrilling flight in a private amphibious aircraft.
Flying directly to Bawah, we were treated to breathtaking views of deserted beaches, coral reefs, and dense tropical forests as we descended toward our destination. As the plane splashed near the welcome jetty, we were greeted with a warm welcome ceremony and escorted to our Ocean Bungalow.

Bawah is designed around the concept of lo-fi relaxation and barefoot luxury, with strong back-to-nature vibes. The eco-luxury theme runs through its design—evident in the thatched roofs and flotsam furniture, and in the art installations and jellyfish-shaped lamps. Still, our bungalow exuded natural elegance, with teak floors, canopied beds, and freestanding copper bathtubs.
The small archipelago where the resort is located is a marine conservation zone and Bawah puts a lot of effort into the stewardship of nature here. We were impressed by the resort’s commitment to sustainability, with its no-waste policy, ban on pesticides and fishing, and state-of-the-art water purification system.
We were impressed by the high level of service—every member of staff seemed ready to go the extra mile to personalize our arrangements and experience. The smallest of details were taken care of.
We felt sheltered in carefree insular seclusion, with every wish catered for. From the welcome ceremony to the arrival to our Ocean Bungalow, and then from the restaurant service to the spa, the experience was designed around the promise of luxury in a remote tropical destination.
Every day we spent here was filled with exciting activities, from kayaking and hiking to open-air cinema screenings and sunset dining in the Tree Top restaurant. One of the highlights was our deserted beach experience, where we were left alone with a romantic picnic set up under a gazebo. Another unforgettable moment was dinner under the stars at The Lookout, with its sweeping views of the sea from the tree canopy level.

As we reluctantly prepared to depart, we couldn’t help but feel grateful for the unforgettable memories we had made at this hidden gem of a resort. Bawah Reserve truly offers the perfect blend of luxury and seclusion, making it an ideal destination for discerning travelers seeking an undiscovered paradise.
