Monteverdi Tuscany

Monteverdi Tuscany is a boutique hotel and exquisitely restored rental villas seamlessly blended into the 12th-century hamlet of Castiglioncello del Trinoro.

Nestled in the heart of Tuscany’s vineyards, overlooking green mountains, fields, and the historic Val d’Orcia, Monteverdi Tuscany consists of eighteen individual rooms and three private villas—all blending medieval architecture with contemporary interior design and modern-day amenities.

Medieval Beauty 

Ilaria Miani, the designer of the hotel, infused the interiors with a tasteful style and eclectic sensibility, creating a place with an authentic appearance that is fully grounded in the spirit of the Val d’Orcia.

The reconstruction of the medieval structures incorporated indigenous wood, Tuscan flagstone and granite, and Carrara marble. The juxtaposition of original beams and arches with contemporary, chic furnishings and bold color themes create a wonderful balance between a “sense of place” and the latest fashions in modern interior design.

Guest rooms and private villas 

Ranging from two to six bedrooms, the villas of the Monteverdi Tuscany are available for weekly rent.

They come with a state-of-the-art kitchen, where a private chef will prepare authentic Tuscan cuisine, a wine cellar as well as custom-designed furniture and oversized marble baths.

The guest accommodation in the hotel part consists of seven individually designed rooms. As the restored villas, the rooms are done up in a masterful blend of the ancient and modern, with the ceilings supported by original wooden beams and interiors that boast splendid art pieces.

The culinary experience

Monteverdi’s fresh and creative cuisine is infused with locally grown herbs, olives, and tomatoes, pecorino cheese made from the milk of sheep raised in the neighboring Pienza, fresh local lamb, and even prosciutto, cured from the wild boar that roam the surrounding woods.

Finally, the wine cellars are well-stocked with the finest regional appellations—making the Monteverdi a marvelous escape for food and wine lovers.

What you should know

• You will need a car to get to Monteverdi and explore around.
• Children are welcome, and there is no additional charge if they are up to 11 years old and sharing with parents.
• Villa reservations are available for week-long rentals at a minimum.
• Worth checking out: the owner of Monteverdi has sponsored a University of Siena archaeological dig that has uncovered evidence of an early medieval defensive settlement on foundations that go back to the Etruscans. Guided tours can be arranged.
