Shangri-La has not imported much of its opulent Asian style to Paris, though the influences are there. Rather, the group’s first European hotel stays true to the building’s history—as it occupies a majestic 1896 limestone mansion. The design blends Napoleonic elegance and decorative chinoiserie, with cosmopolitan luxury permeating all aspects of the experience, with Eiffel Tower views and Michelin-starred cuisine.

Palatial style

The opulent luxury at the Shangri-La Hotel Paris won’t appeal to everyone, but it certainly achieves the “wow effect”—in the style that combines hand-gilded paneling, copious amounts of marble, crystal chandeliers, and woven silk wallpaper.

Much of the building is classified as a French historical monument, but the gold and ecru guestrooms are kitted out with the latest technological luxuries, such as underfloor heating in the all-marble bathrooms, or TV screens embedded in the mirrors.

The service is impeccable and discreet, from liveried doormen to the room service and the breakfast-on-the-balcony preparations. The standards of comfort are second to none. Can there be anything more alluring than soaking in a luxury bathtub as you watch the sparkling lights illuminating the Eiffel Tower at night?

The hotel has three restaurants, of which two are Michelin-starred: L’Abeille (two stars), and Shang Palace (one star), and there is also an Empire-style cocktail bar. Other facilities include a 24/7 fitness room, indoor pool, and wellness center offering CARITA body treatments.

In the Area

The neighborhood around the Shangri-La Paris is a quiet residential area, but there is plenty to see near the Eiffel Tower. The Champs-Elysées is just a 10-minute stroll across the Seine, and the bustle of central Paris is only a few metro stops away.

There are also many museums in the vicinity, such as the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, which traces the diverse art movements of the 20th century, or the Musée Baccarat with a dazzling crystal collection.
